Hoi Polloi in Shoreditch oozes classy cool as soon as you enter the Ace Hotel Shoreditch. The restaurant itself is located in the uber-hip Ace Hotel Shoreditch, and in fact, entrance to Hoi Polloi is hidden away through a flower shop - indicating that only those cool enough to be in the know are actually aware of this. 

Once located, Hoi Polloi is a large restaurant dripping art deco chic. The wood pannelling, low light and live classical music played in the center instantly put you at ease - this is the kind of place people come to relax.

What’s on the menu?

We didn’t have a brunch booking but even though we turned up unannounced there were enough tables for the three of us on the Saturday morning. The friendly sneaker-clad staff showed us our table and left us to oogle over the menu which mimics a newspaper. 

We started by ordering mint teas and coffees to set us up for our leisurely brunch. We then ordered avocado, chilli, poached eggs on toast with a side of smoked salmon, as well as bacon baked beans, fried egg, toasted sourdough. Both of the dishes we were prepared and good portion sizes, in fact the side of salmon was enormous and able to serve all three of us. 

Could I afford to dine here again? 

Although Hoi Polloi is located in the very swanky Ace Hotel, where rooms regularly cost around £200 a night, Hoi Polloi is much more reasonably priced. Our brunch dishes were between £8 to £12 and were very much worth it

Overall? 

Hoi Polloi serves breakfast, lunch, snacks, cocktails and dinner too. The decor and vibe as well as the seasonal british cuisine menu this is a restaurant I would happily spend the majority of my time in - if only it was closer to home!
