Tewkesbury Park Hotel is located on the edge of the town of Tewkesbury and on top of a hill surrounded by a lush green golf course. The elevated location also means the hotel is blessed with not just spectacular views, but 12 hours of direct sunshine in the summer too.

Tewkesbury hotel review

Style & Character:

Arriving into Tewkesbury Park Hotel we were welcomed into a large modern space, with a the check-in desk and reception on the right and a large lounge on the left. There is also a few steps ahead that lead to the bar area with cosy seating and a roaring fire in the winter too!

Although the main hotel building is made up of a 18th-century property, significant work and additions have been made to it, making it feel like a much more modern hotel. There is a focus on light and space, with large floor to ceiling walls in the restaurant allowing the natural light to flood in. This also means guests are constantly treated to the beautiful views from many parts of the property.

Our Room:

We were lucky enough to stay in one of their nine suites located in the main building. Our suite had stunning views of the golf course and the surrounding countryside which we could enjoy from the lounge area by the windows. The room was also had a walk-in style wardrobe and shower and bath located through this.

The state of the art Hynos bed in our room was comfy and inviting, especially as they were clad in fine Egyptian cotton and I could have easily spent the whole day in bed!

The facilities in the room included a Nespresso machines as well as tea and coffee making facilities. There was a large TV in the bedroom and also one opposite the bath too!

Dining at Tewkesbury:

Tewkesbury Hotel has great dining options and we enjoyed dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea here during our stay.

Tewkesbury hotel restaurant Mint

We dined at Mint, the in-house restaurant the night we arrived and were really impressed by our three course meal. Head Chef Anuj Thakur has worked magic with the menu and elevated what could easily have been a standard European menu to dishes which are full of unexpected yet harmonious flavours.

For starters, we enjoyed delicious crispy goat’s curd beignets with saffron poached pear, in which the delicate flavours were exemplary. We also tried the spiced gram flour pancakes which were served with tomato and mint chutney, adding subtle Indian flavours to the dish.

For my main course, I opted for the fish of the day, which was grilled sea bass served with new potatoes, seasonal greens and Café de Paris butter. We also tried the high recommended Forest of Dean fallow deer venison saddle, which was served with venison faggot, potato terrine, caramelised heritage carrots and juniper jus. Both dishes were exquisitely put together with perfect flavour combinations.

Dessert is always my favourite course and we ordered the giant raspberry macaroon made with rose water and raspberry cream, fresh raspberries, gin and served with tonic sorbet. This was an delicious dessert both to look at and to eat! We also tried the chocolate option which was a dark chocolate and praline mousse served with decadent salted caramel ice cream

We were so impressed by the food at the end of our meal that we had to send our compliments to the chef!

Breakfast:

For breakfast the next morning we headed back to the restaurant for the buffet selection. There was a good selection on offer including sausages, bacon, beans and scrambled eggs. There is also cereal, fruit salad, yogurts and nuts as well as fruit juices. Tea and coffees were served to the table and my morning latte was delicious!

Afternoon Tea:

Before leaving we enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea at Tewkesbury Park Hotel. This included unlimited tea or coffee, as well a selection of sandwiches such as ham and Tewkesbury Mustard, smoked salmon, and cream cheese and cucumber.

The scones were served with flashings of locally-made jam and clotted cream from Cotteswold Dairy which was divine! There was also a selection of home-made cakes which finished the afternoon tea on a perfect sweet note.

Facilities & Activities:

Tewkesbury Park Hotel has probably the largest selection of facilities and activities of any hotel I have visited!

As well as the professional 18-hole golf course, there is also an academy course and driving range on which I played my first round of golf! Mark, our instructor, was patient and knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, learning and enjoying ourselves!

Alongside the golf, the fitness and wellness centre includes a gym, 2 squash and tennis courts, a pool, jacuzzi and sauna and fitness studios for classes too. We gave the squash courts a go and were really impressed with the quality of the equipment and facilities.

Once you’ve worked up a sweat, Tewkesbury Park also has a spa which partners with the Natural Spa Factory of Bath, to offer a unique range of treatments from full body massages to Detoxing Tea Wraps.

I enjoyed a lovely relaxing facial followed by a mini-manicure, which was the ideal way to unwind after my golf session!

Overall:

I really enjoyed my break at the Tewkesbury Park hotel and could have easily stayed for much longer. The breadth of activities available means that guests will always have something to enjoy, whether it be a facial, a tennis session, a dip in the pool, or a drink in the beautiful lounge.

I was really impressed with the quality, as well as the variety of the facilities and activities, and this combined with the luxurious rooms and dining options resulted in an highly enjoyable stay.
