Mercure Hotel Firenze - Hotel Review

Mercure hotel florence bedroom

Location: Sussex Price: ££ Value for Money: 5/5 Overall: 5/5 Perfect for: Couples Retreat, Secluded Stays, ‘WFH’ and Isolating

The historic city of Florence is one of my favourite places and it has a lot to do with the stunning architecture, landscape and the all-round cultural vibes the city effortlessly radiates. In fact, there are magnificent museums, hand-carved statues, and galleries wherever you look.

To truly make the most of what this beautiful and culturally significant city has to offer, it is important to stay in a hotel that is centrally located and walking distance to all the major sightseeing attractions. This is especially important if you are on a short weekend break and have a limited time in the city. Equally important, you need a hotel that does the utmost to put the safety of its guests first during a time of great uncertainty.

Opened in 2015 and part of the Accor Hotel Group, Hotel Mercure Firenze is a modern 4-star hotel that ticks all the boxes when it comes to these important criteria.

Location: Central Florence

Covid-19 Safety Precautions:

Mercure Hotel Firenze has made safety precautions paramount upon re-opening and has taken numerous measures to ensure guest safety. These include:

  • Temperature checks at check-in.

  • Hand sanitisers in all lifts and main corridors.

  • Breakfast served in the room rather than a buffet service to avoid guests mixing.

  • Tea, coffee and bathroom products are sanitised and available from reception.

  • Safety packs sold at reception which include face-masks, hand-sanitising gel, plastic gloves and sanitiser wipes.

  • House-keeping can be booked to clean the room at a time when you are sure to be out

It was impressive to see that the hotel is taking extra safety precautions during a time when tourists feel especially vulnerable when travelling and no wonder that the hotel has been awarded ALLSAFE creditation.

Location:

The top attractions are all walking distance away from Mercure Hotel Firenze, including 8 minutes to the Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore, 15 minutes to the Uffizi Gallery and just 10 minutes to the Accademia Gallery – home to the world-famous Michelangelo’s David.

There’s also plenty of bars and restaurants in the area as well as supermarkets. What’s more, there is a tramline that goes straight to the airport and it’s only 4 minutes away. It’s super convenient and the best way of getting in and out of the city with as less fuss as possible.

Although the hotel is on a main road and so close to the central train station, the rooms themselves are very quite, even out on he balconies. Additionally the hotel reception is also set back from the main road which means even the communal area on the ground floors are quiet.

The Room:

We stayed in the Superior King Room and were very impressed with the sheer space of the room which even had enough room for a walk-in wardrobe! We were in an accessible room so along with a private ensuite with walk-in shower there was another bathroom with disabled access.

The room has lovely high ceilings and there’s also a comfy sofa bed, work desk, and even a large balcony where you can enjoy breakfast al-fresco. The mini bar is not stocked due to safety precautions and sanitised tea/coffee supplies can be requested at reception. There’s also the usual facilities including electronic safe, controllable air-conditioning and flat-screen TV. All in all, it was a great room with plenty of space to unwind after a day walking around the splendid sights and attractions of the city.

Very importantly, the bed is ultra comfy and resulted in a great night’s sleep. Equally important, the rainforest shower is heavenly and there’s plenty of power to make you feel revitalised and re-energised for the day ahead.

Breakfast:

Of course, it is a shame that we couldn’t experience the buffet breakfast, but I was quite impressed that the hotel took the step to change to a room service breakfast for extra safety reasons. Simply fill in the sheet at reception to choose what you want and what time you’d like it delivered.

We chose different times for our two-night stay and both times the breakfast arrived right on cue. The breakfast includes fresh orange juice and tea or coffee, a selection of breads and pastries, scrambled eggs and ham, cereal, and fruit salad. We enjoyed our breakfast on the balcony and it was very enjoyable dining by ourselves for a change.

The breakfast itself was good although perhaps a bit standard compared to what I would expect from a four-star hotel. However, it was still enjoyable and set us up for the day ahead.

The hotel are also currently promoting local producers to their guests, and kindly left us a sample of locally produce red wine and the famous Tuscan cantucci biscuits too.

Overall:

During a time when many businesses in the hospitality industry have had to adapt and change, I was thoroughly impressed with the changes that Hotel Mercure Firenze have made to put their guests’ safety at the forefront. I’m sure they have been difficult changes to implement including closing the hotel bar but the staff have been fantastic in ensuring guests feel safe and welcome during their stay.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the facilities are very good but it is the location that is the cherry on the cake. With such close proximity to the main sights of Florence, Hotel Mercure Firenze is the perfect hotel for a weekend away to explore this historic and culturally significant city.

Facilities:
