Staycations are the current trend for obvious reasons but I do love a weekend break away from familiar surroundings. That’s why I chose to spend a weekend at the 4-star Castle Hotel Windsor. Located in a beautiful grand Georgian building which is full of character, the building itself is one of the oldest in Windsor! I loved the beautiful fireplaces and impressive stairwell and creaky stair cases that harks back to the hotel’s rich historic beginnings. I knew this would be the perfect spot to get away from the city and explore the lush Windsor area!

Location:

Castle Hotel Windsor is located on Windsor High Street directly opposite Windsor Castle. I couldn’t think of a better location for visiting the castle, shopping on the bustling high street, which is just a few streets away, and exploring the 2,020 hectares of Windsor Great Park.

We drove from London as there is parking available for guests, the hotel is also located walking distance from both Windsor Central and Windsor Riverside which are both under an hour from London. This makes it ideal for a short overnight getaway from London that isn’t too far from home.

The Accommodation:

Castle Hotel Windsor has a range of rooms from Classic, Superior and Suites too. We found our Superior room had plenty of space for us and our bags and we loved the king-size bed covered with comforting Egyptian cotton. Even though the building is old we couldn’t hear too much creaking floorboards and guests in corridors, which led to a pleasant night’s rest.

The bathroom had lovely The White Company bath products and a warming rainforest shower and standard shower which you could switch between with a touch of a button!

The hotel also provides safety packages in each of the rooms which include a mask, hand sanitiser and wipes too.

Dinner:

After a day out exploring Windsor, which included plenty of window shopping, we decided to have dinner at The Marco Pierre White Restaurant in the hotel. The menu here features a creative twist of classic British dishes and I had spotted a few that I was excited to try.

To start we enjoyed the incredible Mr White’s Scotch Egg, which requires 15 minutes to prepare but is definitely worth the wait! For our main course we tried the freshly ground and grilled-to-order beef burger with skinny fries and crunchy onion rings, as well as the delicious roast chicken a la forestière, which was served with woodland mushrooms, fondant potato, and incredible madeira roasting juices that were so full of flavour!

For dessert we sampled the sticky toffee pudding, an English classic, and the delectable cheese board with scrumptious blue cheese and fig chutney.

As well as the restaurant, the hotel also has a large separate bar area with plenty of seating, a famous selection of cocktails and is open from 9am till late into the evening (barring Covid restrictions!)

Breakfast:

Breakfast at the hotel needs to be booked in advance in order to allow them to space guests out. There is no longer a buffet service but instead food is served to your preference at the table. We tried the full English breakfast and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, as well as teas, coffee, juices and fresh fruit. Guests also have the choice to tweak the menu to their preference and it was nice to have this flexibility.

Bedroom Book Club:

Launching from 4th November, Castle Hotel Windsor will be part of MGallery’s new Collaboration with Rebel Book Club, the UK’s leading non-fiction book club, to provide a multi-sensory in-room guest experience.

The ‘Bedroom Book Club’ is an invitation to become immersed in contemporary non-fiction inspired by the historical story of the hotel. The book will be accompanied by a bespoke cocktail, designed to reflect the read as well as a specially recorded podcast from the author of the book too!

Overall:

For those looking for an easy yet luxurious weekend getaway, Castle Hotel Windsor provides the perfect option. I was impressed with the large and welcoming bar area where you can easily spend a few hours relaxing, as well as the modern restaurant on premises too.

Additionally the hotel is ideally located and the rooms are furnished to a high standard.

In fact, it’s the type of classic cosy hotel which will look gorgeous at Christmas!  I’ll certainly be keeping Castle Hotel Windsor on my list when I next need an escape from the city!
