When exploring a new city, I particularly enjoy venturing into the spots the locals go to, as these are usually the hidden gems.

Levant is one such cocktail bar. In a city with an abundance of rooftop bars boasting iconic views, Levant attracts those seeking a more relaxed vibe.

Located on the rooftop of a conservation shophouse in Tanjong Pagar, you’ll have to locate a small lift in the hallway of a hotel and navigate a flight of stairs to reach it. And it’s worth it.

The food and drink menu is inspired by Levantine and Mediterranean flavours, and the chilled out vibes are also reminiscent of the relaxing riads of Morocco.

The Decor:

Levant has a sleek and stylish decor with high bar tables and stools lining the entire open-air edge of the bar. They are spaced out enough to create cosy pockets without losing out on the greater vibe of the bar.

Minimalist lighting allows the twinkling lights from the surrounding buildings to take centre stage. Levant isn’t a particularly high rooftop bar, so you can look up at the skyline here.

The Cocktails:

I was really impressed by how good the cocktails were at Levant. We tried a range of them and each one was better than the next. The staff were also well versed with each of the drinks and the ingredients, and were able to give tailored recommendations.

The cocktail menu is split into 5 sections and the drinks within them all have a distinct theme. The sections include ‘The Spirited’, ‘The Breezy’ and ‘The Bewitching’, all of which seemed very enticing.

My favourite cocktails included The Old Levanter, a delicious take on an Old-Fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, Tarocco Orange, Aged Levantine Bitters and Pedro Ximénez.

As well as the Babichka, which is made with Mezcal del Maguey Vida, Housemade Beet Kvass and Roselle Cordia, and is served in a Russian doll with Citrus Smoke oozing out of it.

The Citrus Tree was a lighter cocktail with Botanist Gin, Candied Citron and Bruto Americano. They also have a range of non-alcoholic drinks to choose from, as well as wines and beers too.

The Food:

The food menu at Levant is composed of Mediterranean-inspired mezze plates which are perfect for sharing.

We tried the Levant Sharing Platter which was served with Chicken Skewers, Smoky Baba Ganoush, Kofta Sliders and French Fries. Each of the dishes tasted delicious, and it was evident that the food here isn’t just a side note to the drinks.

We couldn’t help but plunge our pitas into the moreish and smoky baba ganoush, and the chicken skewers were moist and tender. The fries were served in an enormous bowl as a large portion, but that didn’t stop us from finishing them off.

The platter was the perfect accompaniment to our drinks, but for those looking for more of a meal, they also serve larger hot dishes including Kadaifi Pizza with Turkish Mozzarella Tomato Salsa, 8-Spice Beef Burger, and Crispy Deep Sea Jumbo Prawns.

Overall?

I really enjoyed my night at Levant. Both the drinks and the food play with the flavours of the Mediterranean and successfully mingle exotic spices, florals flavours and citrus notes.

The staff were also very friendly, efficient and helpful, despite being short staffed on the night we dined there.

All this combined with the sassy beats and cooling city breeze make Levant a rooftop bar I’ll certainly be heading back to soon.
