The Piggery JBH holiday let

I’m so pleased I discovered this little gem of a place tucked away down a quiet Sussex country lane. The Piggery at John Bull’s House is a luxury farm building recently converted into a modern and stylish holiday let. Boasting its own large garden with a pond, along with a raft of Indian Running Ducks to boot, a weekend away here was the country retreat I needed to recharge and escape from being confined to my desk with Zoom meeting fatigue.

The Location:

This beautiful single storey farm residence is ideally located in Sussex, less than 1 hour train journey from central London and also a short driving distance to Brighton. It’s also close to the South Downs National Park and is surrounded by fields and woodland, making it a great base for a walking/hiking break.

The Accommodation:

We arranged our arrival time with the owner Clare so that everything was ready for us when we arrived and there was no need to check-in with anyone.

The property is made up of a single-storey, open-plan space featuring a modern, fully equipped spacious kitchen that leads into the sitting/dining area. This is a stylish space which is flooded with light and filled with cosy furniture ideal for relaxing in.

The property features one large master bedroom with an ultra comfy king-size bed and luxury Egyptian cotton bedding. The bedroom also has a sofa bed which converts to a double bed if needed as a family room. We had a perfect night’s sleep and felt really refreshed and revitalised in the morning, especially after using the property’s luxurious rainforest shower.

I loved the private outdoor space which comes with the property. There is a large private patio overlooking the pond which is where we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked breakfast in the morning sunshine whilst admiring the graceful Indian Running Ducks. There is also a BBQ and sun loungers for the Summer months and a fire pit for the colder months! A recent addition, which makes the outdoor area even more desirable, is a traditional Scandinavian wood fired hot tub! The eco-friendly hot-tub uses fresh water without chemicals to create a totally natural and soothing experience.

Relaxing & Unwinding:

I booked to stay at The Piggery as part of a long weekend exploring Sussex and the surrounding area, including walks in the area, wine-tasting at Bolney Estate, the local Vineyard, and visiting some of the exquisite restaurants in the area.

The Piggery was a great base for this as it is perfectly located close to amenities such as the local station and high street, yet it is still secluded enough to be a quiet retreat. We spent our stay making the most of the accommodation by relaxing with a good book in the living space in the afternoon, enjoying a meal in the dining area in the evening, and then lighting up the fire-pit and wrapping up warm to admire the night sky and stars with a glass (or two!) of wine.

After a comfortable night’s sleep we made breakfast in the well-stocked kitchen and enjoyed it on the patio with the Indian Running Ducks for company, the ideal relaxing morning!

Overall:

This year I’ve focused on exploring the UK to discover the best staycation spots, and it seems the more the year goes on, the less further we’ll be able to travel. This is why I’m so pleased I’ve discovered this relaxing retreat so close to home.

The Piggery at John Bulls House is ideal as an escape from the mundane repetitiveness of being at home all the time and is perfect for a relaxing long weekend getaway in the country, or even as a base to WFH for a week or more in different surroundings. The broadband is super-fast and there is 4G coverage as well, not always the case in the country!

Open all through the year, I’d recommend The Piggery at John Bulls House as a relaxing retreat in any season.
