Acanthus Restaurant at Berystede Hotel & Spa, Ascot - review

Berystede Hotel & Spa

The UK is lucky enough to have many gorgeous destinations for a weekend staycation and I decided to spend a weekend away from my beloved London.

So we headed to Macdonald Berystede Hotel and Spa in Ascot as they also have a newly opened restaurant, Acanthus, that I wanted to try.

Acanthus restaurant Ascot - review

We arrived for a one night stay and immediately were impressed by the look of the hotel. Almost resembling a mini castle, the torrents, classic architecture, and lush grounds were all beautiful. The location is serene and secluded despite being close to local attractions such as Ascot racecourse and Virginia Water lake.

I loved the decor of the hotel which was very ornate and regal, with massive chandeliers and warm fireplaces adorning the lounge. We stayed in an elegant Classic Room which had contemporary design, plush, soft furnishings and a luxury en-suite bathroom.

After checking in we headed down to Acanthus Restaurant for dinner.  From the menu, we decided to start with goats cheese croquettes with walnut and pomegranates which was deliciously full of flavour as was the crispy calamari with burnt lemon we also opted for.

For our main course we tried chicken Cordon Bleu, which I really enjoyed, and the locally sourced prime beef steak with hand cut chips. Finally, for dessert, we had chocolate pudding with honeycomb ice cream and fruit pudding with creme fraiche, both of which provided the ideal end to a lovely meal.

We then relaxed in the bar area which is spacious and cosy, and opted for some Calypso coffees to end the evening.

Our buffet breakfast, located in the same restaurant, was well stocked with a lot of variety. There was hot food with the classics such as bacon, sausages and eggs, as well as pastries, fruit and juices.

Berystede Hotel review

Our stay at Berystede Hotel and Spa was relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable, as it is the ideal place to totally relax, recharge and refresh. The restaurant is also a popular spot with locals, which is evidence of the quality of the food served and the service. I would definitely recommend a weekend away at Berystede Hotel and Spa with your significant other for a relaxing break.
