Bodhi Serene Boutique Hotel - Review

Bodhi Serene Chiang Mai Hotel review

One of my favourite places in Thailand was Chiang Mai, located in the North of Thailand. I loved the relaxed vibe, the friendly locals, the large range of cafes to chill/work in, and of course the amazing local food!

One thing that contributed to my love of Chiang Mai was the beautiful hotel we stayed in. The Bodhi Serene is a gorgeous boutique hotel that derives its name from the Bodhi Tree that grew on the premises. The Bodhi Tree represents wisdom and enlightenment and it is this sense of seclusion and a haven from the outside world which is what they aim to deliver.

Three word summary: Tranquil, Friendly, Spacious

Location 5/5

Bodhi Serene is located in the centre of Chiang Mai’s Old Town. This means it is walking distance from all the main sights in the Old Town, including many of the temples and Phae Gate. It is also surrounded by cafes and restaurants and is also only about 25 minutes to the airport, which is ideal!

  • Hotel transfers

We arrived by sleeper train from Bangkok and took a quick 15minute taxi from the train station to Bodhi Serene. The hotel is also very close to the airport and they can arrange pick-up/drop of for you too.

Style and Character 5/5

Bodhi Serene Boutique Hotel Review

Bodhi Serene takes it’s design influences from traditional Lanna designs, which focuses on simple, clutter free design inspired by nature. This is evident in the beautiful wooden interiors, slick, spacious and unobstructed design.

As a result, the hotel has a very composed and relaxed feel to it, which I felt in myself too by the end of my five night stay. This is even more impressive when you consider that Bodhi Serene is not a small hotel, they have 38 in the old wing and an additional 12 in the new wing. However during our stay we didn’t feel crowded or busy at all.

Rooms 4/5

We stayed in an Executive room during our stay, but they also offer deluxe, superior and premium rooms which are not massively dissimilar to each other. Especially as all of the rooms have a private balcony with views of the beautiful central courtyard. All rooms come equipped with a flat-screen TV with cable channels too.

  • Shower and Bath

Our room came with both a very good shower and bathtub, which wooden windows that can be opened up into the bedroom.

  • Mini bar Tea making facilities

Bodhi Serene has a fridge in room with drinks and snacks that form the mini bar. There is also a kettle with tea and coffee.

  • Bed and sleep quality

The Executive Rooms have kings sized bed which are very comfortable for 2 people. As all windows and balconies face inwards, Bodhi Serene is very calm and quite at night - leading to a good night’s sleep.

  • Breakfast and meals 4/5

Breakfast at Bodhi Serene is a lavish buffet which features an array of fruits, including my favourite dragon fruit! There is variety of bread, yogurt, cereal and fruit juices, which aren't fresh. There is a selection of hot thai breakfast dishes such as noodles and rice, but best of all if the eggs and waffle and bacon station. Here they will cook your eggs to order, and also pile you with freshly made waffles and bacon!

Bodhi Serene also has The Bodhi Restaurant, serving both eastern and western food overlooking the swimming pool.

Additionally, the Fiscus Bar is a gorgeous lounging space, similar to a veranda, where you can order light snacks or cocktails whilst enjoying a good book!

As well as this room service is available 24 hours a day.

Facilities and Activities 4/5

The Bodhi Serene Hotel has 1 large and luxurious non-chlorinated outdoor swimming pool on the rooftop, as well as a smaller plunge pool.

The Fiscus bar is one of my favourite areas to relax, and it is not necessary to order anything to use the space.

There is also a Library with books and DVDs, as well as a Business Centre with 2 desktop computers.

Free transportation is provided for free to the Night Bazaar, which is great and something we made good use of. There are also bicycles available for those who want see the city by bike.

Service and Hospitality 5/5

The 24-hour front desk is always staffed by very friendly staff who are happy to help with any request. All staff were a pleasure to see and talk too and all requests were dealt with efficiently and quickly.

Value for money 4/5

Bodhi Serene is a value for money hotel as it surpasses all standard requirements for a hotel. The smaller superior rooms are the cheapest and give you access to all the same facilities, making it the best value room.
