Last weekend I gathered a big group of friends and headed to The Ultimate Dinner Party at The Little Yellow Door.

Located just a few steps away from Notting Hill Gate station, we knocked on the yellow door and made our way up some steep steps to be greeted and welcomed into a quirky and intimate living room with long tables set for a feast.

Would I Want Seconds?

As with any house party, this one started with punch served in an enormous silver punchbowl. We then squeezed into our seats and waiting for the food to arrive.

The food served here is determined by the culinary background of the latest flatmate. Their current chef is Maximillian Fothergill- Stewart Esq whose menu focuses on home country English dishes. To start, platters were brought over to us laden with chicken liver pate and gingerbread crisp and quince chutney, cheddar puffs, duck sausage rolls and scotch quails egg with sage, onion and leek. These platters were bought out for the whole table to share which meant we got to know the rest of the table very well.

Next came the soup course which on the day was celeriac and apple soup, served with glazed ham hock, sage pesto and rye croutons. The soup was warm and creamy and we all finished it in an instant. The main course was also made keeping the sharing theme in mind and what arrived on the table was two large pies. The meat main course was beef shin, bacon and horseradish pie with mashed potatoes, red cabbage and winter vegetables, and also a vegetarian option too.

Once we had eaten through our pies and piled up our plates the guests shuffled the room around by removing the tables and creating more of an open space bar setting. This was when dessert was brought out which consisted of petit fours to share across the room, including treacle tart with orange and brandy cream, plum and sloe gin burnt cream and winter spiced chocolate truffle.

Could I Afford Seconds?

Our ticket for 4 course dinner, including the punch as a welcome drink was £35, which is more than reasonable for the amount of food, atmosphere and the uniqueness of the event.

There is also a makeshift bar in the living room serving a few delicious but expensive cocktails priced at nearly £10 each. This is where the cost can add up as there is no option to BYO as at other house parties. This also means that the queue at the bar builds up, especially by the end of the night so I would suggest buying all your drinks at once and settling the tab early.

Overall: 4/5

The hospitality at The Little Yellow Door is something that has to be experienced, especially because this is probably the quirkiest and supper club/pop-up in London at the moment. The fact that you have to book through watsapp proves this!
