The Best Food and Drink from Wales - Delivered to you!
As travelling has become more difficult this year, I’ve been exploring the best food and drink from the British Isles from the comfort of my own home this Summer. This has been possible due to the large variety of local producers who now offer UK wide-delivery.
Here are my favourite local food and drink producers from Wales, who deliver straight to you.
Best for Artisanal Products: Wye Valley Producers
Wye Valley is a beautiful area bordering Wales and England with some of the most dramatic and scenic landscapes, as well as a host of fantastic artisanal producers.
Wye Valley Producers have bought these local businesses together and offer shoppers the chance to buy from award winning food and drink producers located throughout Wye Valley. I tried their Postal Box, which offers a selection of Wye Valley’s finest artisan produce all in one box. I was astounded with the variety of products I received which ranged from coffee, spices, mead and marshmallows!
The Postal Box really is a delight to receive, especially as the products vary from week to week depending on availability. This would make a great gift for any foodie who values local producers.
Best for Dairy Products: Calon Wen
Calon Wen is a well-known dairy farm in Narberth which produce a range of fantastic butters, cheeses, yogurts and more!
The best way to sample Calon Wen is with their organic dairy essentials box, which includes all your basics such as milk, cheddar cheese, salted and unsalted butter and yogurts too. They also offer a ‘Cheese Lover’s Box’, and a decadent ‘Luxury Cheese and Wine Gift Box’ too. In this way Calon Wen is ideal for ordering your weekly essentials or gifting to fellow foodies.
Best for Vegans: Mr Nice Pies
Mr Nice Pies have a delicious range of pies which taste even better than a non-vegan alternative. Despite the lack of meat and dairy products used in the pies, they are bursting with flavour and each one has a unique taste to it. Flavours range from Moorish Moroccan Tagine Pie, Drunken Mushroom Pie and my favourite Bountiful Butternut Curry Pie.
Best Alcohol Alternative - Drop Bear Beers
Wales has an outstanding range of local beer and mead producers, and now they also have a great option for alcohol-free beer. Although Drop Bear Beers don’t offer a wide range, the three that they do offer are delicious. My favourite is the super refreshing Yuzu Pale Ale which is immensely drinkable, especially on a hot Summer’s day. They also offer a fantastic Tropical IPA and a Bonfire Stout too.
Best for Organic Meat: Graig Farm
Graig Farm has been run for generations by the Rees family who produce a range of delicious organic lamb, pork, chicken, beef and even fish. Their farm in Mochdre, Montgomeryshire has been awarded a number of accolades for their produce including a series Gold Great Taste awards too.
Graig Farm offer a good variety of meat boxes and multi-buy options. I tried their Organic Chicken Taster Box which included succulent organic chicken drumsticks, chicken thighs, organic chicken stir fry and chicken supremes too. All deliveries are made in eco-friendly packaging which is insulated with compostable sheep wool liner.
Best Online Butchers: Farm and Fork
Based near the Welsh village of Rhosllanerchrugog, Farm and Fork sell grass fed animals, the majority of which have been reared on our own land. This includes Welsh Black and Limousin cattle, as well as Traditional Welsh Mountain and Suffolk sheep too.
What I love about Farm and Fork is the variety they offer, especially with their meat boxes. You can order everything from an essentials box, protein pack, turkey pack and even a Paleo box!
Best for Variety: Discover Delicious Wales
For those who want to try a little bit of everything, Discover Delicious Wales offers the perfect option. You’ll be able to shop from a delicious variety of Welsh food, drink, gifts and more, all from local Welsh producers.
I love their Food Hall which offers a grand selection of produce ranging from store cupboard essentials, sweet treats, drinks and a picnic section too! All products purchased from the Food Hall are delivered together and arrive fresh and ready to sample within 3-5 days.
