Shepherd’s Hut Sussex Staycation

Kenny’s Hut Staycation in Sussex - Review

Location: Sussex
Price: ££
Value for Money: 5/5
Overall: 5/5
Perfect for: Couples Retreat, Secluded Stays

On a glorious sunny weekend this Summer I headed down to Sussex on a mission to unwind and relax in the midst of nature.

I booked a staycation at the newly opened Kenny’s Hut, a beautiful shepherd’s hut located in Horsham, which is also on the same property as The Piggery at John Bull’s House. The hut itself is poised on the edge of a large lush field, with sheep roaming in an adjacent field - perfect for leaving the city behind!

The Accommodation:

Kenny’s Hut offers a shepherd’s hut style accommodation with a touch of luxury to it. The space is composed of a large and comfortable bed, kitchen area with a sink and kettle, and cupboards filled with the essentials. There is also a shower room and bathroom at the far end of the hut, as well as a cosy log fire and a fold-up dining table too.

I was amazed at how large Kenny’s Hut felt on the inside, and how much was able to fit into it. The space didn’t feel confined and there was plenty of room for my husband and I to move around. There was also space for our bags, coats and the rest of our stuff without making the room feel cluttered.

Outside Kenny’s Hut is a large decked area with sun loungers, which was perfect for the sunny weekend we visited. There is also a picnic bench and a barbecue/fire pit, to enjoy meals outside if needed.

Relaxing & Unwinding:

We intended to do nothing more on our staycation than relax in the sunshine, and we spent much of the day on the sun loungers on the deck outside with a good book and plenty of cooling drinks.

In the evening we headed out for dinner at The Crabtree, a well-renowned local pub and restaurant. Once back at Kenny’s Hut, we decided to light a fire in the fire pit and spend some time outside watching the sunset and the stars emerge, which was a lovely way to spend a warm evening.

We had a good night’s sleep as the bed was large and comfortable. It’s also a quiet area, making it easy to drift off to sleep.

After a restful night, I was pleased to learn that the shower in the hut worked very well and there was enough space to have a comfortable shower before starting our day. Plenty of towels were also provided which was handy!

Breakfast:

For breakfast we bought some goodies of our own to enjoy, and the owners had kindly left us some fresh duck eggs too! Kenny’s Hut has a stove, pans, cutlery, mugs and everything you need for washing up so we were able to make a lovely breakfast for ourselves and enjoy it on the picnic bench outside.

This was a relaxing way to spend the morning, and the picnic bench was ideal for the breakfast buffet we had conjured up! I found that the kitchen worktops, alongside the fold-up table, provided enough space to prepare and cook a meal.

Overall:

I really enjoyed my overnight staycation at Kenny’s Hut. Despite being a shepherd’s hut, there wasn’t a lack of space or facilities. We particularly made the most of the outdoor space as we visited on a sunny Summer weekend. However I imagine it can also be quite cosy and romantic in winter, especially with the log fire and outdoor fire pit too.

I’d recommend Kenny’s Hut for couples, or individuals, looking for a quiet space to unwind away from the city. As it’s not too far from central London and so easy to get to, it is ideal for short breaks or overnight stays.

Facilities:

  • Free car parking available

  • Kitchen space with all the essentials
