Recently I haven’t been able to spend much time out in London admiring the beauty of the city and it’s landmarks. So to make up for this, and celebrate this amazing city along with our wedding anniversary, my husband and I headed to the London landmark inspired afternoon tea at The Kensington Hotel.

This unique afternoon tea takes diners through a journey of the capital’s most famous and beautiful architecture, as well as it’s culinary traditions., and we couldn’t wait to settle into the beautifully surrounding of The Kensington Hotel and give it a try.

Food?

We arrived at our afternoon tea which was booked for 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were welcomed and guided through to the classically designed Drawing Room were the afternoon tea is served. We had a lovely table by the window and next to the roaring fireplace, a cosy spot to spend a few lazy hours on a weekend!

After selecting our teas, we were presented with the savoury starters, which included Colston Bassett stilton and broccoli quiche, a warm steak and London ale pie, and my favourite, the crab cake with tartar sauce. These were lovely lovely starters which set the scene for the main event.

The afternoon tea is presented on a specially designed structure which is shaped like the London eye. This holds the sandwiches, scones and sweet desserts, allowing you to leisurely work your way through them.

We started with the sandwiches, which included Campbells & Company smoked salmon, Coronation chicken and a light egg and cress bridge roll. After enjoying the warm scones with generous helpings of clotted cream and jam (we were celebrating ourselves after all!), we moved on to the main event, the desserts!

The dessert selection are all themed around iconic London architecture and include The Gherkin, made of white chocolate and filled with a dark chocolate ganache and The Shard, a carrot cake with milk chocolate. There is also a red telephone box made with rhubarb mousse and Big Ben, made with lemon curd tart.

I loved making my way through desserts and discovering the flavours within them. My favourite was The Gherkin, as I love white chocolate and this was filled with delicately smooth dark chocolate ganache. I also enjoyed The Shard, as the carrot cake was moist and contained a subtle level of aromatic wintery spices which brought out the flavour in the carrots.

The staff also surprised us with an anniversary cake which was a lovely touch and made the occasion even more special. By this point we were very well fed, so we finished off with a coffee and headed out into the beautiful neighbourhood to Kensington to work off our feast!

Price?

Afternoon Tea at The Kensington Hotel costs £42 per person, or £54.50 with a glass of Champagne included. This is a very reasonable price for the amount of food that is served and quality of service, and is well aligned to the price of afternoon tea at other iconic London hotels.

The London landmark afternoon tea at The Kensington Hotel pays fitting tributes to London's most famed architecture. It is a great way to tour the city without leaving the comfortable surroundings of the hotel. This is an ideal way to celebrate a special occasion, and perfect for friends and family who are visiting the city.
