28°-50° Maddox Street wine bar restaurant review

Cuisine: European wine bar and restaurant
Style Points: 5/5
Location: Mayfair
Price: £££
Overall: 5/5

Named after the latitudes within most of the world’s vineyards are located, the 28°-50° Wine Workshop and Kitchen is a stylish take on a traditional wine bar in Mayfair.

Owned by Michelin star Chef Patron Aggi Sverrisson, 28°-50° Maddox Street provides a relaxed and classy dining experience. When we arrived, the evening sun was streaming through the large windows, creating a beautiful light in the restaurant which playfully bounced off the hundreds of wine glasses along the bar. The decor itself is charming yet cool and after being taken by the interiors, we couldn’t wait to try the food!

Food?

The modern European menu at 28°-50° Maddox Street is seasonally focused, ensuring freshness of all ingredients.

The menu has a host of tempting dishes which we couldn’t help but order. We started with truffle popcorn (£4) fresh moist grilled prawns with aioli and garlic butter (£3 each), and a fresh Thai Pomelo salad (£7.50) with coconut, lime leaves, ginger, peanuts.

For our mains course we tried the pork rib eye with white bean cassoulet and braised fennel (£19.50) and ratatouille, courgette flower, parmesan, rocket (£16.50). Both dishes were deliciously well cooked and left us wanting more.

This led us to desserts, for which we had a chocolate and hazelnut mousse with ice cream (£7.50), and a delicious apple crumble (£7.50)

All our dishes were above standard and we really enjoyed them. The wine paired with each of the dishes was also expertly chosen, explained, and worked beautifully with the food.

Price?

28°-50° Maddox Street is a high-end restaurant and the prices reflect this. However they do offer a great value set menu between 12pm - 5pm, where 3 courses will cost £21.50.

Overall?

28°-50° Maddox Street is a beautifully classy wine bar and restaurant and I would happily spend evenings enjoying their amazing wine and delicately prepared food. This is one restaurant which I would highly recommend!
