Located in a corner off Marylebone High StreetOpso is a modern, bright restaurant serving a selection of delectably light, fresh tapas style Greek cuisine.

As well as the restaurant space, it also functions as a café, wine bar and bakery, making it a perfect destination for any time of day. We headed there for a group lunch to try their enticingly affordable set menu. Their concept of social style dining, with sharing style food served in a laid-back, casual atmosphere seemed perfect for the occasion!

Would I Want Seconds?

Opso prides itself on its use of high quality ingredients, most of which are supplied directly from Greece. We decided to start our meal with bread from Opso’s bakery and we ordered baby koulouri bread as well as sesame covered milk bread. This was served with butter and sea salt which made a delicious combination! For our starters I tried the bright Greek coleslaw with quinoa, cabbage, carrot, spring onion, dill and sherry vinaigrette which was well-seasoned and served in the perfect portion size.

For my main course I ordered the lemon and oregano chicken which was composed of twelve hours slow cooked chicken drumsticks with desire potato puree and lemon and oregano sauce. This was a scrumptious and juicy dish in which the chicken was complimented perfectly by the potato puree and the taste was oregano wasn’t over powering at all.

Finally for dessert the set lunch menu offered eitherGrandma’s favourite kaimaki ice cream with sour cherry and hazelnut crumble, or Greek milk pie brulee traditional Peloponesian dessert. However when we had a look at the standard dessert menu we were blown away by the offerings as it included dishes such as mastic infused candy floss (£2 each), snowy cheescake (£6.5), Moustokoulouro ice cream sandwich (£8) and bitter chocolate madness (£9) As a result of this extraordinary selection we ordered salted caramel flavoured mini ice cream cones (£2.50) from the a la carte dessert menu which come in a variety of flavours including Valhrona bitter chocolate, kaimaki, salted caramel, espresso, vanilla and berries sorbet.

Could I Afford Seconds?

The set lunch menu at Opso is extremely well priced, with three courses priced at £15 and £18 with dessert too. In addition the a la carte menu is also well priced with their signature tapas style dishes costing between £4 - £9. Opso also serve an extensive Greek brunch menu from 10am 5pm on weekends which includes delectable dishes such as their Opso Eggs Benedict (£9) which was actually ranked among the best brunches dishes in London in 2015.

Overall:

We all a stunning group meal at Opso and the staff handled the orders and our demands very well.

Opso is a great place to come if you’re in search for fresh and well-made dishes which aren’t too heavy on the stomach.  The light and airy atmosphere and vibrant food also help to add a bit of sunshine into the wintery season.
