Oysters at Wright Brothers Spitalfields, London

Wright Brothers, Spitalfields - Restaurant Review

Cuisine: Fish and Seafood
Style Points: 4/5
Price: ££
Overall: 5/5

Located within the original infrastructure of Old Spitalfields Market on Lamb Street, Wright Brothers Spitalfields serves up ‘sea to plate’ food in the atmospheric market setting.

The popular seafood restaurant has a number of different seating areas within the restaurant including booths and a market terrace.  We were seated at the striking Carrara marble bar with a perfect view of all the drink and oyster action!

What’s on the menu?

Of course there is no better combination than oysters and champagne, so we started with a glass of bubbly before choosing our oysters.

Head Chef Richard Kirkwood has created a menu featuring the finest quality fish, seafood and oysters from England, Ireland, Scotland, France and the Channel Islands, served ‘naked’ or dressed. In fact, each oyster we ordered has its origins and preparation explained to us, which was certainly a unique touch!

We tried some natural 'naked' oysters to start including Jersey Rock from Royal Bay, England, and Gillardeau Speciale from Ile d’Oleron, France. Each type of oyster had a distinct taste to them just like the staff had explained and it was evident that the origins play a significant factor in the taste.

To finish, we tried the smoked callingford with horseradish cream. The addition of a dressing still preserved the fresh fish taste but also added variety to the offerings.

Can I afford to dine here again?

At Wright Brothers the menu is a good price considering the fresh high quality ingredients. Naked oyster platters cost between £8-£11 for three and for dressed, smoked or cooked oysters it is around £10 for three.
