Review: Traditional Persian Feast with Tabl and Anzali

Delicious food, meeting new people and a casual dining atmosphere mean that supper clubs are rapidly growing in popularity in London. With many of these innovative dining options springing up in the city, I decide to head to one myself!

After having a peruse at the many pop-up kitchens and supper clubs on offer on Tabl I decided to try out the Authentic Traditional Persian Feast.

Held in a stunning house near Regent’s Park, we arrived to be greeted by our charming host and were led down to the kitchen area which was already laden with delicious delights to welcome us. Once we’d had ourselves a glass of prosecco with a summery strawberry added to it, we dipped into the mixture of the most popular Persian dishes.

Showcasing products from authentic Persian cuisine specialist Anzali, many of the dishes were made using their new range of products. We started with Kashk Bademjoon, a smokey and velvety aubergine dip, Mirza Ghasemi, also made with aubergines and garlic, and BBQ chicken wings too. The Kashk Bademjoon in particular when eaten with fresh Persian bread was deliciously irresistible.

The larger dishes included Fisenjoon, the Persian national dish which included a mixture of pomegranate and walnuts, Zereshk Polo, an opulent saffron infused rice dish,  as well as marinated lamb shish kebab which were the perfect mix of spice and zest.

The food was served in an informal style focusing on the traditional Persian culture. This meant loads of sharing plates and the chance to pile up your own plate with as little or as much of each dish you wanted to try. This created a lovely engaging and communal atmosphere, with conversation taking place around the main table and seating spread throughout living room and kitchen areas. However, the absence of set courses did mean it was hard to stop dipping into the delectable range of food on offer.

Once we had satisfied our savoury appetites our host brought out a round of tempting desserts. These included Ferini, a creamy pudding made with rice flour, milk and sugar and Sher Berinj also a rice pudding style dish. These desserts were not overtly sweet or too heavy to ate after a large meal, ending our meal perfectly.

We had a great time at the Traditional Persian Feast sampling and learning about a range of authentic Persian cuisine. Thanks to Tabl and Alex from Anzali for their hospitality!
