Dinner at Edwins Borough, London

Edwins Borough - Restaurant Review

Cuisine: Modern European
Style Points: 5/5
Price: £££
Overall: 5/5

The expanse that is London harbours a host of hidden gems and I was pleased to have discovered one right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Borough Market itself!

Edwins Borough is a cosy restaurant tucked away above Trident’s pub, making it very easy to walk past without sparing a glance. But this would be a mistake, as glancing over Edwins means missing out on some of the best dishes in the neighbourhood.

What’s on the menu?

Edwins serves Modern European dishes using seasonal English ingredients which are hand picked for their quality. The care they take in sourcing the ingredients, and the wine to pair with it, is evident in the exquisite flavours. In fact the staff’s sheer passion for the food is enough of an indication of how good it is.

We started our meal with pigeon served with Jerusalem artichoke and scallops in filo, harissa mayo. Both these dishes are unique in that they would not be found on many menus in London, and both were beautifully presented. Despite the subtle nature of the ingredients used, each dish was packed full of moreish flavours.

We ordered the superfood salad with avocado, butternut squash, kale and halloumi as a side and I tried the gigot of goat with spiced lentils, lime pickle, radish and herb salad. Again goat isn’t a dish found widely across London and the soft meat combined with depth of flavour in the lentils made this a stunning dish.
We also tried the Rib-eye served with vine tomatoes and béarnaise sauce which was also tender and cooked perfectly.

For dessert we opted for the ever popular chocolate pudding with ice cream which ended our meal on a sweet high.

Each of the courses were served with a specially selected paired wine, the stand-outs were with doubt Meinklang Traminer icewine and a delicate unique Meinklang orange wine.

Price?

Edwins is a small neighbourhood restaurant frequented by locals and foodie in the know;  as a result of not catering to the masses, the prices at Edwins are very reasonable for the high quality of the food. Main courses are between £16-20 and starters cost round the £9 mark.

Overall?

Edwins is bringing quality food and ingredients which don’t follow any trends to the London dining scene and as such has a much needed, refreshing menu.
I’m so pleased to have discovered a gem like Edwins tucked away from the crowds serving delicious dishes with a passion.
